Deferasirox is used to treat chronic iron overload caused by repeated blood transfusions in patients 2 years and older. It is also used for iron overload in patients 10 years and older with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia when liver iron levels are high and serum ferritin exceeds 300 mcg/L.

Deferasirox should not be used in patients with severely reduced kidney function (estimated glomerular filtration rate less than 40 mL/min/1.73 m²), poor overall health status, high-risk myelodysplastic syndromes, or advanced cancers.
