Propofol is used to start and maintain general anesthesia in children aged 3 years and older, and to maintain anesthesia in infants from 2 months of age. It is also used for sedation of awake adults during regional anesthesia procedures and for sedation of mechanically ventilated patients in intensive care units.

Do not use propofol if you are allergic to propofol or any ingredient in the formulation. Do not use if you have had an allergic reaction to eggs, egg products, soybeans, or soy products.
